Danielle Porter Sanchez joined the History Department at »Æ¹ÏÊÓÆµin fall 2019. Danielle’s research focuses on social, cultural, and environmental history in West Africa. She recently submitted the manuscript for her first book, The Second World War and Africa (under contract with Michigan State University Press). Her current project focuses on the ways that Cabo Verdeans have interacted with the active volcano on the island of Fogo from the 16th century to the present. Danielle is also interested in histories of popular culture, public health, and science. When she is not teaching, researching, or writing, Danielle is a blocker for Denver Roller Derby, Jewish Roller Derby, and Fuego Latino. She is also a knitter and fiber arts nerd. Danielle is a first-generation college graduate. She attended the University of Texas for her B.A. and received a Master’s in Africana Studies at Cornell University. Danielle earned her PhD from the University of Texas in 2015. Before joining the History Department at CC, Danielle was an assistant professor at Muhlenberg College, where she taught a range of African history courses.
